LEGO Mosaic Sizes: 16×16 to 128×128 Studs

bricksmosaic builds mosaics from 16×16 up to 128×128 studs, in steps of 16. Every size is made from the same interlocking panels, so a bigger mosaic is just more panels pinned together. Here is what each size looks like in the real world.

Every size at a glance

A LEGO stud sits on an 8 mm grid, so a 16-stud panel is 12.8 cm across. Width and height are set separately, so rectangles work too: 64×96 is a fine portrait format.

How the canvas is built

Each 16×16 section is a Technic brick with holes (BrickLink 65803). Panels sit side by side and are locked together with two Technic pins (2780) along every seam, so the finished mosaic is one rigid board you can hang. The image pieces go on top, one panel at a time; the PDF instructions give every panel its own page and a map of where it goes.

Which size for which picture

16×16 to 32×32: icons, logos and pixel art. Small enough to build in an evening.

48×48 to 64×64: the sweet spot for portraits and pets. 64×64 is about the size of an official LEGO Art set, and faces stay recognizable.

96×96 to 128×128: scenes, groups and fine detail. A 128×128 mosaic is just over a metre across and a real wall piece, with 16,384 studs to fill.

Not sure? Bigger keeps more detail but costs more pieces; see the piece counts and how merged plates bring them down.

Try sizes before you buy

In the studio, the width and height sliders resize your mosaic live, so you can compare 48×48 and 96×96 side by side before committing. The parts list, panel count and pin count update with every step.
